# Closures

> This part of the portal is only visible to people with the **Administrator** role. If you can't see it in your menu, ask an administrator. See [Roles and permissions](/reference/roles-and-permissions).

A **closure** hides dates from the booking calendar. Use it for bank holidays, maintenance weeks, weather closures or private hire. Manage closures under **Operations > Closures**.

## Add a closure

Choose **New closure**:

| Field | Notes |
|---|---|
| **Name** | For your own reference, such as "Christmas Day". |
| **Closed on** | The date. |
| **Closed for several days** | Tick this to add **Closed until (inclusive)** and cover a range. |

## What it does and doesn't do

> **Existing bookings are not changed**
>
> A closure stops **new** bookings for those dates. Bookings already made are left alone. You have to [cancel them yourself](/daily/managing-a-booking#cancel-a-booking) (or move them) if you can't honour them.

- Closed dates disappear from the booking calendar, and the system refuses any attempt to book them.
- Closures don't touch your slots or sessions. **Removing a closure makes the dates bookable again immediately.**
- Upcoming closures are listed first, soonest first. Finished ones are shown under **Past closures**.

## Closure or deactivate a slot?

| You want to… | Use |
|---|---|
| Close for one day or a block of days | A **closure**. |
| Stop running a regular time altogether | [Deactivate the slot](/selling/slots#deactivate-reactivate-delete). |
| Run only in a season | Give the slot a date range. |
