# Postage

**Postage methods** are the ways you can send merchandise. At checkout the customer chooses one of the enabled methods, and its cost is added to their order **once**, however much is in the basket.

## Add a method

Under **Merchandise > Postage**, choose **New postage method**.

| Field | Notes |
|---|---|
| **Service** | What the customer sees, and what you see when you pack: for example "Royal Mail Tracked 48", "DPD next day" or "Evri". |
| **Cost** | A fixed amount for the whole order, in your system currency. Enter `0.00` for free: the shop then shows **Free**. |
| **Enabled** | Untick to stop customers choosing it. |

## Order and choice

- **Drag** methods by their handle (⋮⋮) to change the order customers see them in.
- If only one method is enabled, it's pre-selected at checkout.
- With **no methods** at all, checkout asks for no choice and adds no postage charge.

## How postage affects the price

- Postage is added **after** vouchers. Vouchers discount only the goods, so an order whose goods are fully covered still pays postage.
- The chosen service and cost are copied onto the order. They appear in [Fulfilment](/merchandise/fulfilment) ("Send by …"), in [Orders](/merchandise/orders-and-refunds), in the customer's emails, and in the payment and the refund limit.
- Changes only affect orders placed from now on. Existing orders keep the service and cost they were sent with.
- If you change your currency, costs aren't converted. Check them afterwards.

> **Tip**
>
> Not charging for delivery on larger orders? Gravity Pass uses a single fixed cost per method, so you can't set a threshold. To offer free postage to everyone, create a method with a cost of `0.00`.
